Title: How Many Calories A Day Should I Consume?

How many calories a day should I consume if i want to lose a little weight but still stay healthy? What kind of foods would this include as well? Please write and let me know. thanx

    There are numerous websites out there that will calculate these things for you. A gerneral rule of thumb is 4.5 - 5.5 x your weight calculated in kilos, but it depends to some extent on exercise etc.

    The general aim to lose weight and stay healthy is to lose around 0.5-1 kilo a week, which means a Kilojoule defecit of around 15000-30000 a week from what you need to maintain a healthy weight.

    Websites such as www.fitday.com or this one http://www.react.ie/default.htm?/Health/Healthcheck/Calculator.htm will help as a basic calculation of daily requirements.

      i dunno how much i agree with that second link.. the react.com calculator.

      I filled out the informatino and it told me my ideal weight is 127 pounds...I am 5 foot 6 and i have a large body frame, including quite some muscle.

      anyway.. ive just seen oyther places where it told me my weight range.. which is around 130-150 pounds for my height..

        There's no real magic to the site's recommendations. Basically, they stem from the fact that the recommended Body Mass Index (BMI) for adults is 18.5 to 24.9, and then there is a slight adjustment for frame size (which is calculated from the wrist measurement). The calculated "ideal weight" for a medium frame size puts you in the middle of the BMI category.

        BMI is only a rough estimator, and the other sites that you've seen may use a different method.
