Vitamins?I eat a really great diet. I drink lots of water, I eat loads of fresh fruits and vegies, and refrain from refined sugars and high fat foods. Yet, I have read that because the soils of the world are so depleted from overfarming, and because our vegies and fruits take so long to get to our table, a lot if not all of the original vitamin content of said foods are missing. Now, if I take vitamins, will those little pills actually replace the nutrients that are lost in depleted foods? In other words, can my body actually use the vitamins when they are in pill form as opposed to when they are found naturally ocurring in, say, the fibres of a carrot? If so, does it make a difference if they are cheap no-name brands or the more expensive and suavely packaged brands? I currently don't take any supplements.

Unless you eat a pretty bizarre diet - and you say you are eating sensibly - then you will get all the vitamins and other nutrients you need from your diet. No need to pay anyone for the little pills. Honestly!

If you are on a restricted diet (ie one for losing weight) I would suggest taking a multi-vitamin/mineral. Yes you can use the vitamins in pill form. I believe some vitamin pills have time-released systems, but I am not sure if they are worth the extra money. Just goto your local pharmacy and you should see many brands. Compare vitamin amounts (on the label) and prices, and pick accordindly.

In addition to the above, don't worry about the name brand. Provided they have the same amount of vitamins/minerals you are looking for, the "quality" of name brand vs. generic or store brands is the same.
