Title: Fat Free Dieting, Any Thoughts? I have recently (10 days ago) gone on an almost fat free diet. I had a baby a year ago and am trying to get off the fat quickly. My diet is consiting of coffee with milk, water , pretzels, raw veggies, tuna (plain), oranges, special k cereal. Anything I should watch for? Is this a bad idea to do this? I am not losing as fast as I used to before baby. I have also been exercising an hour a day. Need help! I am going for quick loss and lifestyle change. I want to make sure I am getting the nutrition I need while still eating but only very low calorie/fat foods. Thanks Name: Tracy Date: Dec. 11th, 2001 Title: Re: Fat Free Dieting, Any Thoughts? Hi Tracy, I am the mother of 2 young children so I understand where you are coming from. First of all, did you nurse your child? Are you still? I held onto 7-10 lbs while nursing both my kids and it took awhile after weaning to lose it. Also it seemed to take about 2 years after both kids(one is 7 the other 2) before my energy levels returned and my body really got back to normal. I have never reached my pre(1st)pregnancy weight but that was almost ten years ago! Every womans body changes after pregnancy. As far as eating fat free, I think thats great but remember not all fats are bad and some even necessary. Try not to cut calories too drastically because you need the energy to keep up with that little one plus workout!:) Besides your body will not let go of any fat if it thinks it's starving. Good Luck and God Bless, Julie Tracy wrote: > I have recently (10 days ago) gone on an almost fat free diet. I had a baby a year ago and am trying to get off the fat quickly. Hi, Make sure that your body is getting the "good fats"....that is poluunsaturated fats from items such as nuts, lentils, and olive oil....try to limit the amount of saturated fat...also, check out fatfree.com....they have great tasting vegetarian recipes Name: kara Date: Dec. 12th, 2001 Title: Re: Fat Free Dieting, Any Thoughts? Your body also needs fat to survive. As others have recommened, use unsaturated fats -- those that are not solid at room temperature. The key to any weight loss program is a calorie deficiency energy balance. That means you use more calories than you take. Since you mentioned you exercise one hour every day, I assume it might be the type of exercise that is the problem. Do more of the cardio-type exercises (aerobic) such as running, jogging, biking, swimming, etc. If you do this for at least 30 minutes a day, you'll find your weight going down faster specially if you maintain the type of diet you have. One of hour of cardio work will definitely do wonders. Remember, it's the amount of time you actually do the exercise, not the total time at the gym. Good luck! I am not a health expert, but from my experiences and observations there is no such things as a quick diet that will keep weight off. A diet should not be something that you have to "go-on" per se. In order to lose unecessary weight and keep it off, you will have to make alterations to your lifestyle. When you go off of fats and cut the calories, you will notice a change in the beginning but you body has mechanisms that kick in that know you are not getting enough. Therefore, your body will think your "diet" is normal and will adjust, so the weight will not come off like before. A low-calorie diet will also slow down your metabolism which will make it even harder to lose weight. Changing you food preferences and workout regularily will also help. The body likes variety. As far the fat-free diet, becareful to still get some fat. Fat aids in the absorbtion of nutrients in the body. Like the others have said, there are good fats and bad fats. Eating right is not a temporal thing, it is a way of life. Set reachable goals for yourself and stick to them. Write them down and keep them with you. Don't aim for more then 1-2lbs a week. Slow weight loss is more maintainable and will stay off longer. Suggestions: green veggies(the darker in color the more nutrients they have), fiber foods (they will make you feel more full), and drink lots of water. Stay motivated and Good Luck!
