Title: Bowflex Vs. Soloflex

My gym renewal period is coming up, and I am trying to decide if I should go with a home gym. I think the money saved, and convenience, makes it a pretty good ideal. These two machines seem to be the top two in this market. I looking for some legitimate feedback on which one to buy!

Let me save you some time. I have used both. I had used my brother's Soloflex for a few months, and just couldn't get used to the rubber band feel of it. You also have limited range of motion with the Soloflex. I now own a Bowflex, and it is an outstanding machine. Unmatched range of motion, over 60 exercises with the standard unit, (I bought the Lat Pulldown and highly recommend it) The feel of the resistance is cool too, and yes you do get a good workout that will leave you sore, just like free weights. If you have any specific questions, e-mail me and I'll help you out. I know it was hard to get good unbiased information when I was shopping for a home gym.

      James -
I have a Bowflex and am very satisfied with it. The Soloflex infomercials showed a restricted up and down path to the bar. The Bowflex is perfect for someone with limited space. It also folds and can be rolled into a closet. I have the lat attachment also. The squat attachment might also be a good buy. I have 400lbs. of weights in my garage that I never use due to the heat factor. I use the Bowflex in the house and can easily store it if necessary. If you have unlimited space or an empty garage you could purchase one of the bench/rack/pulldown setups. I like the Bowflex better. I have other Bowflex comments at this site. I also have comments at en.musclemag.com - Good luck

RTN... You talk about a restricted up and down path to the bar! From what I could see on the infomercial, bowflex puts one in a awkward position, especially when doing exercises like the bench and incline press. It seems as if you have to reach back, which does not seem normal for the bench press. Soloflex causes you to start the bench press with the bar on your chest, which does not seem normal either. Does this pulley system making positioning for the exercises awkward?

          James-
I wasn't real clear. It appeared to me that the Soloflex moved in an up and down fashion and could not move toward you as in the top of a curl. It isn't much of a reach for the Bowflex bench press and you are able to stretch as much as you like on each rep.u
