Title: Thick Thigh's Needing Help!

My legs are thick, I've always had thick legs. Is there any exercise I can do to reduce the thinkness. I'm now currently running about 4 miles 5 days a week. I also play soccer 1 day a week. Will squats make my legs thicker while at the same time make them look toner? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Carol!
I am no expert on fitness, but I have learned quite a bit. Most people would tell you that doing a lot of cardio/aerobic workouts will make your legs smaller. Basically a bunch of calorie burning exercise. I haven't really ever done anything too elaborate as far as leg exercises because I am mainly concerned with upper body. Please e-mail me at alyspeach@yahoo.com or message me via yahoo messenger under the name alyspeach . I look forward to discussing diet and fitness stuff with you. Thanks!

To some degree the shape of your body is genetically determined. Given the amount of running you are doing weekly alerady, I don't think more aerobic type exercise alone will make any change. The first question to answer is, is it fat or bone and muscle that makes your thighs look thick. You may been relatively lean overall, but one of those unlucky individuals who stores body fat predominately in one place, in your case the thighs. If so the only way to thin your thighs is to reduce your overall body fat level. Doing any kind of weight training for your legs will develop the underlying muscles and may make your thighs look better. As a last resort you could try some very high repetition leg exercises, like squats or lunges. Try 50-100 reps to start and work up to as manny as 500-1000 reps. Although spot reduction is generally not possible, if your overall body fat level is low you may be able to get those last pockets of fat to respond to an unorthodox (and extremely grueling) scheme like very high repetition resistance exercises.
