Title:
End Of Run "kick"how effective is the "kick", or sprint, at the end of a run? or does this mean that i am not tired enough from my run that i have enough energy to increase my speed at the end?

Running is mostly an aerobic exercise (uses oxygen). Sprinting is mostly an anerobic exercise (uses energy stores already in the muscle). So unless you have completely depleted your entire energy stores you will always have enough energy left to sprint a short distance. You probably don't want to completely use up all of your energy reserves or you risk injury from stumbling or sickness due to reduced immune system strength, but I think an all out sprint at the end of a run is a good way to add a little extra intensity without having to suffer for a long time. It would be interesting to see if running at a slightly faster pace over the entire run would be more beneficial than running at the slower pace most of the run and then sprinting at the end. I guess the later would be something like an abreviated fartlick type run, where you jog 1/2 mile, then sprint 100 yards, and repeat the cycle.
