Good Abdominal/lower Back WorkoutI am trying to strengthen my abs and lower back...does anyone know of a good daily routine for these muscle groups?
I thought my existing routine was adeqate (60 hyperextentions, 250 bicycle situps, 40 leg lifts, 250 oblique situps) until i got into a contest with a teammate involving the aforementioned muscles and got creamed...anyway, any input would be appriciated!

What did the contest consist of?
Doing thousands of reps a week doesn't really strike me as a strength contest.

I have a number of friends with great abdominal strength who have come to me for alternative workouts and everyone has cursed the day I put them on a stability ball to isolate their abs for a great workout. Trying using this not so well kept secret of the rehab profession and see what you can achieve. Although I do agree with Joe about the competition

The people with the strongest core are competitiors in powerlifting, weightlifting (this means Olympic lifting) and strongman competitions. They do not do thousands of reps, they develop their core through squats, deadlifts, snatches, cleans, atlas stones, etc. All these heavy lifts will require huge stabilization through your core and lower chain. When I think of strength, I think of this. I do not think of how many butterfly's one can do. The only direct work I do for core is rope crunches (I do the multipurpose rack + dumbells attached), side bends and sometimes pullthroughs.
